Realizing and acknowledging cultural differences helped Travis understand how to approach expanding into foreign countries. Colombia has high power distance, low individualism, and high uncertainty avoidance scores. Translating these scores smooths interactions. In Colombia, many things must happen behind the scenes before a business transaction can take place. For example, word-of-mouth recommendations are key. It's unlikely that a potential client comes directly to the business. Travis sees a high respect for titles. Colombians work hard for their positions and, in turn, require and command respect, so much so that they are given titles of “Doctor”. Hierarchy is a large part of leadership in Colombia. While he notes collaborations behind the scenes. The leader has the final word in decision-making and commands respect. He observes this with the president of his company in Colombia. Luckily for Travis, Jessica, being a Colombian citizen, was familiar with the processes. Geographically, to America, it is very close and will have little, if any, time difference. It's also more culturally aligned to the US than many would think. Tavis observes less friction there compared to some European and Eastern countries. Latin America is also a tech hub.
